Leadership Award for Exemplary Teachers

The Leadership Award for Exemplary Teachers is awarded to practicing educators working toward a master’s or doctoral degree in the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences. To qualify for this opportunity the applicant must be enrolled in the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences; be a practicing educator working toward a master’s or doctoral degree (students taking a sabbatical to finish the degree will also be considered); and must submit an essay on why they would describe themselves as a teacher leader and how they expect their advanced coursework will strengthen their leadership knowledge and skills in the future. (Teacher leaders have the following characteristics: Maintain a level of teaching responsibility, participate actively in school-wide or district decision-making on a regular basis, are held in high regard by their peers, are teachers to who others go for advice, information, or assistance. Teacher leaders do NOT necessarily have the following characteristics: Have formal titles or roles as teacher leaders, chair or facilitate committees, are paid extra for their work.)
